WHAT IS THE LANEWAY PROJECTS?

Laneway Projects was conceived by Sydney artist Brad Robson and works in collaboration with community arts space Create Or Die. It is a mobile exhibition space providing a fantastic opportunity for artists seeking urban exposure.

Laneway Projects moves beyond the traditional gallery model, taking art out of the white box and down to street level where it can be enjoyed by all. Utilizing large window spaces on Little Hunter Street, the site divides gallery space into separate, self-contained units. Once installed, no staff are required, but thousands of people pass by daily, changing the way people think about their urban environment and hopefully creating new and exciting cultural meeting points.

WHERE IS LANEWAY PROJECTS?

The exhibition window spaces are on Little Hunter Street just down from the corner of George Street and Hunter Street.  A hop and skip from Wynard Station and Australia Square.

HOW IT WORKS

There are eleven individual showcase windows available for artists to create works for display.

Create or Die will put a call out for Artist submissions every 8 weeks.

The current Call Out is themed ‘GRAPHIC ART’ – think Graphic Novels, Zine style illustrations and text, daily comic strips. Applications for this round close on Thursday 19th November, 2015.

Applicants must fill in the ARTIST SUBMISSION – LANEWAY PROJECTS form with their uploaded work.

ARTWORK SPECIFICATIONS

Unless otherwise specified, all works displayed in the boxes will be prints of artists’ original artwork.

All artwork must be within specs of 840mm in height and 594mm in width. Include 2mm bleed. All images must be saved in CMYK at 300dpi. Where possible please convert your text to paths, curves or outlines. Check that your submitted file is press ready.

Create or Die will organise the printing of successful submissions. We will not be responsible for any incorrect file formatting of submissions. Please do not mail a physical copy of your work!

Create or Die will email all successful applicants one week after closing date of call out. If we do not contact you, please don’t fret! Try again in 8 weeks! We will also keep you on our artist file for any Group Exhibitions that we organise through Create Or Die Gallery.

There is a submission fee of $50 for all successful applicants. This is to cover our administration fees and install time.

INSTALLATION

Laneway Projects will manage each bump in and bump out of Laneway Projects. Artists are welcome and encouraged to assist if they wish, however the curatorial decisions of the gallery are final.

We will notify you once your work is installed and promote it across our facebook, instagram and email networks. We would love it if you could also share it across your networks.

SALES

Artists’ names and weblinks will be displayed on the windows and any sales or commission enquiries will be passed on to you and processed through the Laneway Projects page on the Create or Die website. As part of your submission to Laneway Projects, your artwork print will be a limited edition of 20 in collaboration with Laneway Projects and will be priced at $300.

Although patrons won’t be able to buy works then and there, we respond quickly to any offer of interest and will make it as easy as possible for them to buy from our online channels and over the phone.

There is a 35% commission on all sales and works will remain on the website (and thus exclusive to Laneway Projects) for 2 additional months if they do not sell through Little Hunter St.

There is also opportunity for Artists works to be selected for the Create or Die Gallery in Marrickville for any Group Exhibitions that we curate. Please see our website calendar for upcoming events and exhibitions.

SECURITY

Laneway Projects will not take responsibility for any loss or damage to works once installed. However, the windows are completely secure and lockable and the laneway is regularly patrolled. The glass is double-glazed and the laneway is well lit and visible at all times.
